All About Pull Production: Designing, Implementing, and Maintaining Kanban, CONWIP, and other Pull Systems in Lean Production by Christoph Roser Receives Shingo Publication Award

Summary: After trained examiners and accomplished business professionals performed a thorough assessment of his work, Christoph Roser has been selected as recipient of the internationally recognized Shingo Publication Award from the Shingo Institute, a program in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Professor Roser will receive the award at the 35th Annual Shingo Conference in Provo, Utah, on May 23, 2023.

LOGAN, Utah — The Shingo Institute, a program in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, has awarded Professor Christoph Roser the Shingo Publication Award for his book, All About Pull Production: Designing, Implementing, and Maintaining Kanban, CONWIP, and other Pull Systems in Lean Production.

“Receipt of the Shingo Publication Award signifies an author’s significant contribution and practical application to the body of knowledge regarding enterprise excellence,” says Ken Snyder, executive director of the Shingo Institute.

The publication is a practical guide for anyone looking to implement pull systems. It focuses on practical application and values functionality over theory, although it explains the underlying relations as well. It is not a high-level philosophical discussion of Lean. Instead, the book helps readers roll up their sleeves and get the job done. As such, it is written for the practitioner. All About Pull Production also serves as a useful reference for students and researchers of Lean manufacturing.

John Shook, chairman of the Lean Global Network and writer of the book’s foreword, says, “In this book you will find many techniques and tools that will help you reconfigure your supply chain operations. But more importantly, by exploring numerous approaches and methods, this book will challenge you to rethink your strategy, to reconsider what your supply system needs to accomplish and why. This book provides you the means to create supply systems for the rapidly evolving complexities of the twenty-first century, anywhere, in any industry.”

“Professor Roser is the go-to source for anything about Lean,” says Dr. Torbjørn Netland, professor of Production and Operations Management at ETH Zürich. “With this comprehensive book on pull production, he has written an authoritative work. It is highly recommended for anyone interested in getting to the heart of Toyota’s pull principle.”

Professor Roser will receive his award at the Awards Gala during the Shingo Conference in Provo, Utah, USA on May 23, 2023. The conference is a multi-day event featuring keynote speakers, company tours, and interactive break-out sessions designed to provide ongoing knowledge, insights, and experience for organizations in pursuit of operational excellence.
