LOGAN, Utah – The Shingo Institute, a program in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, has awarded Hologic Inc.’s Costa Rica site (Hologic) with the Shingo Silver Medallion for operational excellence. Hologic is an innovative medical technology company primarily focused on improving women’s health and well-being through early detection and treatment.

“Receipt of the Shingo Silver Medallion signifies not only an organization’s mastery of tools and techniques, but also that it has developed mature systems for improving an organization’s operations,” said Ken Snyder, executive director at the Shingo Institute.

Holgoic’s Costa Rica site is a medical device manufacturing facility located in the Coyol Free Zone. Devoted to improving the health and well-being of women around the world, Hologic strives to do so through the promise of delivering innovative medical technology, a promise known by employees and customers as The Science of Sure. The site identified the Shingo Model™ as a platform to guide its implementation of operational excellence strategy and has seen numerous improvements during its journey.

“We are honored to receive the Shingo Silver Medallion,” said Patrick Brady, senior vice president of supply chain at Hologic. “We implemented the Shingo Model to assist in driving excellence, predictability and sustainability in our operational processes. We have seen practical and measurable results from this effort across our site along with increased engagement across our teams.”

By “challenging” or applying for Shingo recognition, organizations invite a group of accomplished professionals and trained examiners to thoroughly review the organization’s culture and operations. The examiners evaluate the challengers based on a rigorous set of standards and the Shingo Institute awards the organizations according to their assessment results.

Hologic will receive the award during the Awards Gala at the Shingo Conference held the week of April 28–May 3, 2019 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The conference is a five-day event featuring a selection of workshops, plant tours, keynote speakers, and breakout sessions designed to provide ongoing knowledge, insights, and experience for organizations in their pursuit of operational excellence.
