Shingo Prize Awarded to Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain One India for Organizational Excellence

Summary: After a thorough assessment by trained examiners and accomplished business professionals, Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain One India has been awarded the internationally recognized Shingo Prize from the Shingo Institute, a program of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.

LOGAN, Utah – The Shingo Institute, a program in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, has awarded its top and most prestigious honor, the Shingo Prize, to Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain One India.

“Receipt of the Shingo Prize is a worldwide recognized symbol of an organization’s successful establishment of a culture anchored on principles of enterprise excellence, such as respect for every individual, leading with humility, quality at the source, the quest for perfection, and creating value for the customer,” said Ken Snyder, executive director of the Shingo Institute. “Ultimately, these recipients are in a class of the best organizations in the world, regardless of industry or country.”

“The Shingo Model gave us a tough but fool-proof path on our journey toward achieving the bigger purpose: excellence,” said Hardik Shah, director of Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain (ANSC) One India. “It gave us the knowledge to establish and mature operating tools and systems that can help any organization achieve desired results. For ANSC One India, culture is our foundation. It truly signifies our intent of “Business Is People” and makes us want to build the best leadership teams for our organization.”

Sachin Parashar, site director of Abbott Nutrition, Jhagadia said, “Challenging for the Shingo Prize was a remarkable experience for all of us and helped to validate our enterprise alignment toward continuous improvement, which drives a culture of operational excellence. Now more than ever, we understand the ‘why’ behind what we do and how each of us creates value for our customers.”

Abbott has been pursuing advancements in science, technology, medicine, and nutrition for more than 130 years. The enterprise creates breakthrough products in diagnostics, medical devices, nutrition, and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Today, some 113,000 employees are working to make a lasting impact for customers in more than 160 countries.

Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain (ANSC) One India was established in 2011 with the objective of creating an end-to-end in-country supply chain to manufacture products with locally sourced ingredients and packaging materials. The One India model was established as a unique partnership with Abbott Nutrition International and Abbott Nutrition R&D to further enhance ANSC’s market leadership under the guideline of “In India, For India.” Abbott One India is spread across two locations: the manufacturing plant in Jhagadia, Gujarat, and the corporate office in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and is one of the youngest supply chains within the Abbott Nutrition network.

“Achieving the Shingo Prize is one of the greatest achievements for all of us,” said Sandip Badgujar, senior manager of Operational Excellence at Abbott One India. “We strongly believe in the foundation of six ANSC pledges, which drive ideal behaviors required to achieve ideal results. Our purpose truly helps to ensure that we deliver quality and cost-competitive products to our consumers that will help them live their lives to the fullest.”

By “challenging” or applying for Shingo recognition, organizations invite a group of accomplished professionals and examiners to thoroughly review their culture and operations. The examiners evaluate the challengers based on a rigorous set of standards, and the Shingo Institute awards the organizations according to their assessment results.

Representatives of Abbott One India will be recognized as a Shingo Prize recipient during the Shingo Institute’s Awards Gala at the 35th Annual Shingo Conference held on May 23-24, 2023, in Provo, Utah, USA. To learn more about the event, please visit https://shingo.org/events.

The annual conference is designed to provide ongoing knowledge, insights, and experience for organizations in their pursuit of operational excellence. The conference will feature keynotes and interactive breakout sessions. Attendees will also have the option to add pre- and post-conference workshops and company tours to their agenda.
