Biography

Carlos Scholz is a seasoned Lean practitioner and lifelong learner with extensive experience spanning both healthcare and manufacturing sectors.

He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Catalysis, a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the healthcare industry by advancing value-based care through experimentation, collaboration, and education.

Prior to his role at Catalysis, Carlos held several senior leadership positions, including Director of Operations for Medicine Specialties at The Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento, California, where he led strategic initiatives across seven value streams. He also served as Performance Improvement Director, overseeing the deployment and maturation of “The North Valley Way”—a Lean Management System rooted in Shingo principles and featured in Becoming the Change by John Toussaint and Kim Barnas.

Carlos has also led large-scale improvement efforts as Associate Vice President of Organizational Innovation at NYC Health + Hospitals and previously held leadership roles in the manufacturing industry as Director of Operations, Quality, and Improvement at Hanesbrands Inc. and D’Addario & Company Inc., where he spearheaded enterprise-wide Lean transformations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from IEST Anáhuac University in Mexico and an Executive Master’s in Healthcare Leadership from Brown University.

Carlos was named a Shingo Rising Star in 2023 and recognized as a Fellow of America’s Essential Hospitals in 2016.
