Minsur Smelting Plant & Refinery Awarded Shingo Bronze Medallion

LOGAN, Utah, February 12, 2024 – The Shingo Institute, an esteemed program within the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, proudly announces a recipient of the Shingo Bronze Medallion: Minsur of Pisco, Perú.

Minsur is a globally recognized leader in mining and metals. Its Pisco Smelting and Refinery has been honored with the prestigious Shingo Bronze Medallion by the Shingo Institute for its outstanding commitment to operational excellence. This recognition, bestowed by the Institute, which is renowned for its rigorous evaluation standards, signifies Minsur's dedication to producing high-quality products, minimizing waste, and elevating customer satisfaction.

Minsur's emphasis on continuous improvement, employee engagement, and innovation has propelled it to this remarkable achievement. Ken Snyder, Executive Director at the Shingo Institute, remarked that a "receipt of the Shingo Bronze Medallion signifies an organization's mastery of fundamental tools and techniques for improving operations. Organizations (like Minsur) demonstrate commendable progress on their journey towards enterprise excellence."

According to Alex Padilla of Minsur, the company's transformative leadership principles foster an environment of trust and empowerment among staff, encouraging open expression of ideas. Minsur exemplifies its innovative approach by developing Lingo, an operational framework prioritizing safety, efficiency, and streamlined processes. Lingo's implementation has bolstered management practices and facilitated record-setting achievements.

Lain Alfaro, Maintenance Superintendent, attests to Lingo's transformative impact, stating, "With the arrival of Lingo and ... its tools, we have... optimized maintenance processes... delivering quality work and generating trust in our clients."

Huber Zarate, Head of Metallurgy, highlights the efficacy of Lingo in enhancing process control and standardization, affirming, "the control processes with Lingo has improved due to the monitoring and discussion we carry out of our main indicators in our performance dialogue."

Minsur's Pisco smelting plant and refinery, renowned for producing highly pure tin and tin-based alloys meeting international standards, exemplifies the company's commitment to excellence. Since its inception in 1996, the facility's processing capacity has steadily increased, reaching 56,000 mt/year in 2019. However, to overcome production bottlenecks in 2019, Minsur started its journey with Lingo, which has proved to be instrumental in driving operational efficiency, and  being globally competitive.

The Shingo Institute Bronze Medallion represents a significant milestone for Minsur, underscoring its unwavering dedication to operational excellence.
