The Shingo Student Center is a hub for students to explore the impact that excellent management has on the operational and financial success of organizations. Grounded in the principles of the Shingo Model, the Center provides students with opportunities to lead, learn, and grow in an environment dedicated to operational excellence.
Student Club
The Shingo Club is the main activity arm of the Shingo Student Center providing students with dynamic opportunities to learn, network, and grow as leaders in operational excellence.
Shingo Scholars
Shingo Scholars are the student leaders of the Shingo Student Center. These exceptional individuals play a pivotal role in shaping the Center’s mission, activities, and direction.
The Shingo Institute
The Shingo Student Center is part of the Shingo Institute, a globally recognized organization based at Utah State University’s Huntsman School of Business. The Institute’s mission is to develop and promote the Shingo Model, which emphasizes the connection between principles, behaviors, and systems to achieve sustainable organizational success. The Institute offers world-class workshops, conferences, study tours, and the prestigious Shingo Challenge.
Inspired by Shigeo Shingo
The Shingo Institute and the Shingo Student Center are inspired by the teachings of Shigeo Shingo, a Japanese industrial engineer and one of the leading pioneers in operational excellence. Shingo was instrumental in developing many foundational concepts of Lean manufacturing, including just-in-time production and mistake-proofing (poka-yoke). His principles emphasize that excellent management starts with aligning behaviors and systems to achieve ideal results, making them timeless and universally applicable across industries.
Shingo’s philosophy is centered on empowering individuals, fostering continuous improvement, and focusing on processes rather than just outcomes. These principles guide the Center’s mission to prepare students to become leaders who can transform organizations and deliver exceptional results.
